Today,
Michigan workers face new challenges to our right to share
in the American dream. Advocates of the hoax called
"Right-to-Work" would like to weaken unions and put at risk
all that we have accomplished through our contracts.
We often say Right-to-Work means Right-to-Work for less.
The evidence makes it clear that these laws are a total
failure.
Today, twenty-two states
have Right-to-Work laws. Reports show these states as having the worst
working standards and conditions in this country; while free bargaining
states have the highest income levels, higher wages, the best workplace
protection and overall social protection. We can be proud of what we
have accomplished through our unions: higher wages, pensions, decent
health insurance, workplace safety and the right to respect on the job.
We must educate the public
in order to defeat Right-to-Work and protect your union's ability to bargain
for all union members and their families everywhere.
